Anna and the French Kiss was the Better Read Than Dead book club's pick for May and I devoured it. Seriously, I read the whole book (minus chapter one) in just one day. I couldn't allow myself to put it down. Anna was a tad whiny, but once I realized that if my parents just sent me to boarding school I'd whine a little at first I got over it. After a while I actually found myself jealous that these characters were able to live in such a gorgeous city. I mean this group of friends seemed so tight knit and fascinating. Look at me, babbling like always. Moving on to Étienne St. Clair, he got on my nerves in a good way. I usually found myself frustrated by his choices, but seeing as how this novel is a contemporary, I had high hopes for the ending. Throughout the book Anna and Étienne, also known simply as "St. Clair" by pretty much everyone, go through quite the series of near misses and we really have hope for them. Stephanie Perkins is fantastic at creating characters that appeal to your emotions and keep you hooked from the very start. I'm hoping to get my hands on the companion novels soon. I'm looking forward to being so invested in the story. If you enjoy the feeling of going through all of the emotions that the characters go through, then I suggest getting yourself a copy of Anna and the French Kiss. What I want as a reader is to be sucked in. I want a story to hold my attention and make me care. That is actually how I rate my books, based on how well they keep my attention. When it comes to events, I would like them to be spread out more. Maybe that's a weird way to say it. What I mean is, change the cities you visit. Don't always do the major ones, some of us can't make it to those. And if you insist on making them so far, can you make them at a reasonable time? 2021 Part One Wrap-Up

My decision for 2021 was to split my reading plans into quarters and so far that plan is working. In the first three months of the year I have been able to finish six whole books! I am so proud of myself! I started off the year with a book I already knew that I was going to love, Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer. Needless to say I was not wrong. Reliving the book from Edward's point of view brought new life to a story that I have loved for so long. I would read the whole series from his point of view if I could. I also read a short poetry book called 2 AM Thoughts which was as enjoyable as every poetry book that I have read. I mostly read poetry when I am looking for comfort and it typically works out as planned. However, The Messengers was not as great for me. I can see why people enjoy it for its social commentary, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Alas, the long awaited return of Sarah J Maas to the beautiful world that she created.
