Blog Tour: Gemini ARC Review

Image
Hello and welcome to my stop on the Gemini blog tour! I can't wait to tell you about this lovely debut! Let's get started, shall we? About the Book In a powerful and daring debut novel, Sonya Mukherjee shares the story of sisters Clara and Hailey, conjoined twins who are learning what it means to be truly extraordinary. Seventeen-year-old conjoined twins Clara and Hailey have lived in the same small town their entire lives—no one stares at them anymore. But there are cracks in their quiet existence, and they’re slowly becoming more apparent. Clara and Hailey are at a crossroads. Clara wants to stay close to home, avoid all attention, and study the night sky. Hailey wants to travel the world, learn from great artists, and dance with mysterious boys. As high school graduation approaches, each twin must untangle her dreams from her sister’s, and figure out what it means to be her own person. Told in alternating perspectives, this unconventional coming-of-age tale sh

An Interview with Kathleen Glasgow

Image
A Little Bit of Background If you've been around a while then you already know that I met Kathleen Glasgow at the Tucson Festival of Books back in March. I expressed to her that I was a blogger, a relatively new one at that, and somehow we ended up talking about the possibility of an Interview. Cut to June. With Barnes & Noble hosting B-Fest and Kathleen talking at our local Eastside store, we decided that would be the best time for an interview. This was my first in person interview and I was so ridiculously excited! Finally, you get to read it! About the Book Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen she’s already lost more than most people lose in a lifetime. But she’s learned how to forget. The thick glass of a mason jar cuts deep, and the pain washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You don’t have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you. Every

Waiting on Wednesday #2

Image
Waiting on Wednesday Waiting on Wednesday is a series hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine . This week I want to talk about Vicarious by the ever lovely Paula Stokes. Let's get to it! Winter Kim and her sister, Rose, have always been inseparable. Together, the two of them survived growing up in a Korean orphanage and being trafficked into the United States.  Now they work as digital stunt girls for Rose’s ex-boyfriend, Gideon, engaging in dangerous and enticing activities while recording their neural impulses for his Vicarious Sensory Experiences, or ViSEs. Whether it’s bungee jumping, shark diving, or grinding up against celebrities at the city’s hottest dance clubs, Gideon can make it happen for you, for a price. When Rose disappears and a ViSE recording of her murder is delivered to Gideon, Winter won’t rest until she finds her sister’s killer. But when the clues she uncovers conflict with the neural recordings her sister made, Winter isn’t sure what to believe. To

Conversations: Series, Yay or Nay

It's that time again! This week for conversations, we are talking about book series and whether or not we appreciate having them. Let's get to it! I feel like this is going to be a super short post because I love book series! I know I usually take forever to finish them *cough Harry Potter cough*, but I can't help but love the fact that I get to enjoy these characters and their worlds for such a long time. I'm so needy when it comes to the characters that I love. I have finished several standalones and prayed that I would one day get a sequel or even a companion novel. A few recent ones would be Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes, The Blood Between Us by Zac Brewer, Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow, Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, If I Fix You by Abigail Johnson, and so many more. I just need more! I will fully admit to my greed. Now I completely understand that a series is a commitment, but I dive in. I have purchased a few boxed sets without ha

Firsts Review

Image
Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn 5 Stars Firsts was the Better Read Than Dead Book Club pick of the month for May, yes this review is super late. Grace and I had chosen this book because we love sex positive reads and were hoping this would satisfy the lack we were feeling within YA. Unfortunately, Grace couldn't easily get her hands on a copy in Australia so she sat this one out. However, I very much enjoyed every second of it! If you didn't already know, our main character Mercedes has sex with virgins so they can give their girlfriends the perfect first time that she didn't have. Also, her best friend, Angela, is saving herself for marriage. This is exactly what pulled me in. The actual synopsis lets you know there will be talk about sex, it will not be something that we tiptoe around, teenagers have sex, let's talk about it. I love that! We'll get to all of that later because I need to talk about it. Right now, let's talk about the characte

Waiting on Wednesday #1

Waiting on Wednesday Welcome to my very first "Waiting on Wednesday" post. Basically I just tell you about an upcoming book that I just cannot wait to read. Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine , feel free to make your own post and link it up. This week I am going to talk about Labyrinth Lost by  Zoraida Córdova . Nothing says Happy Birthday like summoning the spirits of your dead relatives. I fall to my knees. Shattered glass, melted candles and the outline of scorched feathers are all that surround me. Every single person who was in my house – my entire family — is gone. Alex is a bruja, the most powerful witch in a generation…and she hates magic. At her Deathday celebration, Alex performs a spell to rid herself of her power. But it backfires. Her whole family vanishes into thin air, leaving her alone with Nova, a brujo boy she can’t trust. A boy whose intentions are as dark as the strange markings on his skin. The only way to get her fam

Conversations: Book Borrowing Rules

Image
Welcome to another Conversations post! Today's topic is "What are the do's and don'ts for someone who wants to borrow your books?" Now this one is a toughie. I don't really lend out books anymore. Let's start with why. Once upon a time I lent my best friend some of my Gossip Girl books. Now she read them and liked them, but one day when I asked for them back it was revealed that her mother had given my books to Goodwill. I was crushed. Her mom kindly bought me copies, but she bought the wrong cover in a mass market paperback edition no less (BLECK!) for one of them. I still feel bitter about it.  Now even after that I let another close friend borrow book 1 from the Private series and while this was completely not her fault, my book was destroyed. A water bottle burst in her backpack and not only are the pages all crinkly, but the cover is being held on by packaging tape. Book 2 in that series is still missing to this day. I have since forgiven
